A Cut Above: The New Lotus Caramelised Biscuit Spread

‘Hairdresser’ Biscuit Spread Hits Waitrose Shelves

Women around the country will be familiar with the mysterious biscuit which arrives alongside a complimentary coffee at thousands of hair salons across the UK. Now, thanks to increasing demand for the iconic treat, Waitrose is launching a spreadable version of the Lotus Caramelised Biscuits.

New in shops this week, this rich, luxurious caramelised biscuit spread is ideal for use in baking, and tastes just like its cookie counterpart. Available in smooth and crunchy versions, the jar shares the same iconic red and white packaging as the biscuits and costs £2.49/400g.

Both the original biscuit, also known as Speculoos, and the spread have reached cult status in Belgium and around Europe. Now sold exclusively at Waitrose, this is the first time the spread has reached UK shores.

Waitrose home baking buyer Jo Maclaine says, ‘We are always looking for fun and quirky products and we’ve had a great deal of interest from our customers who have seen this spread in Europe and have loved its rich taste. We adore the retro packaging and the fact that its flavour is synonymous with pampering in a hair salon is a unique plus! As well as being a treat on toast, it’s also great as a baking ingredient - try it as a buttercream layer in a coffee cake.’

Prepared using the same finest natural ingredients, the Lotus Caramelised Biscuit Spread is made with no artificial flavours or colours. Suitable for vegans & vegetarians.
